Chess.com is nearing its official launch of v3, but you don’t have to wait. You can try out the new Chess.com by scrolling to the bottom of the page and clicking “Try the New Chess.com.” Actually, this has been available for quite a while. I tried it last year, and the site seemed a bit buggy to me, so I stopped using it and forgot about it. However, it is much improved and appears to be in the final stages of testing.
In addition to a clean new look, mobile-responsive design, enhanced computer analysis, new visuals, and better accessibility to functions, the new Chess.com has upgraded features on various parts of the site. Some of those upgrades are for Tactics Trainer. Now TT was always great anyway, but it has gotten even better. You can now filter the puzzles in several ways to target your practice. Specifically, you can limit the puzzles
- to just one theme so that you can practice themes that you are weakest on or just want to improve on
- to just those that you have failed before, in case you’d like to keep trying them until you get them right
- to a specific rating range so that you can focus on a desired level of difficulty
The video below shows how to access these settings, as well as one other setting that is not easy to see.
