In this game, I could have finished my opponent off with a nice tactic in the middle of the game. See if you can spot what I didn’t in the position below.
After trying the puzzle, check out this video with an overview of the game and the solution.
Take Your time
Although I was still winning after my move, I’ve learned the hard way many times over that you don’t want to give your opponent any chances to defend when possible. Always take your time and try to find the best move in the position–often this is a forcing move of some kind (check, capture, threat).
Avoid Chess Blindness
In this game I saw one good idea and was happy with it, so I didn’t look for something else. As second World Champion Emanuel Lasker advised, “When you see a good move–wait–and look for a better one.”
